As another solstice comes and goes, it's time to reflect on the year just gone and the year to come, some things good, some things bad, but always change.
Last year a very dry spring was followed by a very wet Thornborough Music Festival, 60 bands playing over 3 days, some fantastic mud and music.
This year will see the first Lime Tree Music Festival, on the first weekend in August, more details soon.
On the nature front, following the sad death of Ken, one of our much loved bird ringers last year, we are now getting some records again, of our first Goldcrest for instance, only as big as your thumb and now proudly wearing a ring. All the nest boxes have been cleaned out and made ready for spring.
A recent survey by DEFRA has found as many as 22 different species of wild plants in 1 square metre of the gill bottom, including the southern marsh orchid.
In late summer the badgers began to visit the hide in search of peanut treats and thanks to OAKLEAF the badgercam is linked into the computer so film can be edited or put directly to the website (just as soon as the badgers have worked out how to do this!).
Much work is already underway on improving the site with water supply and acsess being the priority, we have more bookings already than we had last year so we are going to be very busy.
AND FINALLY, we were pleased to help out with the local badger group recently, when we took in an injured young badger until his relese about three weeks later, with a lot of TLC at LTF.
More soon..
