Nature Reserve and Conservation Area

Ten years in a countryside Stewardship Scheme has marked a change for Lime tree Farm away form agriculture and towards a focus on wildlife. Trees have been planted and ponds created following the natural contours of the land, hedges have being replanted and stone walls rebuilt.

Over fifty wild bird, owl and bat boxes are now in place and the birds are monitored all year round. Moths and butterflies are also recorded and the wild flower rich meadows attract many other insects.

A log cabin has been built overlooking a woodland gill for use a s bird hide and field study centre. A pond dipping platform has also been built for the use of school groups and others.

Ten years of Higher Level Stewardship has now been entered into with DEFRA (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) ensuring future continuation of nature conservation at Lime Tree Farm.
